Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
